About Fjord
Valldal's strawberries, the roaring Gudbrandsjuvet gorge on the road to Trollstigen, and Stordal's 1789 Rose Church, its walls and galleries covered in rose painting.
Fjord is the stretch between Trollstigen and Geiranger: Valldal's strawberry fields, the Norddalsfjord and the narrow Tafjord, with Stordal and the Storfjord shore to the north. Most people drive straight through it on the way between the two.
Give it a night or two: paddle on the Tafjord, visit the summer goat farm at Herdalssetra and buy fruit and cider straight from the farms.
Good to know
- Getting there: Fv63 over Trollstigen from Åndalsnes, the Linge–Eidsdal ferry (about 10 minutes, three an hour) and Ørnevegen to Geiranger, about 50 minutes from Valldal. Ålesund is about 1 h 30 away.
- Season: Trollstigen and the road from Geiranger to Langvatn are closed from November to May; the rest of the valley is open all year.
- Sleeping: About a dozen campsites and a few small hotels, among them Juvet Landskapshotell by Gudbrandsjuvet.
- Food: Valldal strawberries in summer, fruit, juice and cider at Lingebakken farm shop, and goat's cheese at Herdalssetra.
